Being the horror fan that I am, and one that really liked the movie Vacancy, I should have known about Vacancy 2 long before I did, but for some reason had no idea it had been made and has been sitting on the shelf at Blockbuster since January. Part of the problem was that it went straight to video, so I never saw any commercials for it. Another was that I haven’t been renting movies all that much anymore because it seems like one can pretty much buy a DVD for the same price the video stores want to rent it out for, something which surprised me a year ago when I brought a ten dollar gift card to Blockbuster and still had to pay money for two new releases. A few weeks ago, however, I started writing a review for

realistic, especially given all the mistakes the killers make when trying to film their first kill. Also, like the first movie, this one doesn’t focus on the blood and guts, which was a pleasant change of pace. Furthermore, if, like me, you go in thinking you will know the ending due to it being a prequel, don’t worry, the movie makers obviously knew this would be the case and did a nice job working in an ending that is a surprise, one that leads nicely into the first film.

the movie Vacancy, something which has been long overdue. While doing this I realized I needed some information about it and couldn’t find my DVD box (I still haven’t unpacked everything since my move) so I simply searched the movie online using Google, and what do you know, a search option for the movie Vacancy 2 popped up, which completely caught me off guard. Because of this I decided I needed to get back into the horror movie watching game, especially if I was going to start writing reviews on them for my website and signed up for an online rental service, one which delivered Vacancy 2: The First Cut yesterday.
Now, having spent the last two weeks reading about this movie, I wasn’t sure if I was going to enjoy it and really didn’t have high hopes. The problem was that it being a prequel I was pretty sure that I knew how it would end, and given the reviews I had read, wasn’t expecting much in the way of entertainment while waiting for that end. Those reviews, however, weren’t justified and now, having re-read most of them, I can tell that those who wrote them didn’t watch this movie all the way through since they make statements about it which are incorrect, statements that could easily be mistaken for spoilers by those who haven’t seen the movie yet. Further, given that most reviewers (both professional and amateur) didn’t like the first movie, I should have realized they wouldn’t like the second.
So my advice: if you liked the first movie go and give this one a try. It isn’t as good as the first, which shouldn’t be much of a surprise, but it is better than most movies coming out right now, and seems pretty
