For the longest time I remember seeing the name F. Paul Wilson on the cover of books near the bottom of the shelf in the horror section of the books stores I frequently find myself in, but never really thought about reading anything he had written until someone bought me one of his Repairman Jack books for Christmas in 2006. While preparing to read the book I realized it was the forth or fifth in a series of books that featured the same character, so I quickly went to the store and bought the first book, which was The Tomb, a book that turned out to be one of the best books I have ever read and now has been responsible for me going out and buying everything F. Paul Wilson has written (even ordering the stuff that is out of prints because I like his work so much).
His Repairman Jack books are the best of the bunch, though his other books are most certainly not lagging, they just don’t have Repairman Jack in them, which is a loss (though their own characters are great). Repairman Jack is the type of character that everyone fantasizes about being, but wouldn’t really want to be due to the danger he often finds himself in.
Sort of like a combination between private investigator novel and X-Files episode, F. Paul Wilson is one of those writers that can fit into any genera, and often pulls fans from every corner of the bookstore into his own little world.
